Over-indulgence is not unique to the 20th and 21st centuries. History has had periods of notorious decadence and excess.  Flemish Baroque era painter Peter Paul Rubens surely had someone inspire him back in 1639 for his depiction of Bacchus, Roman God of wine and intoxication.  In fact, the term Rubenesque is generic for female bodies with ample endowments.  The modern reality is that more people can afford to overeat and do.  .
